Amla cultivation (આમળાની ખેતી)

Intensive cultivation of trees and tree cultivation along with traditional cultivation are both very old but in a way new for the farmers of our country. Given the growing demand for fruits and the declining supply from natural forest sources, the prices of fruits are getting very good to the farmers. Fruit farming is one of the main means of maximizing returns by making full use of the land, while the number of new seeds and laborers is declining year by year. Therefore, cultivation of crops like Amla (Indian gooseberry) has become very popular in Gujarat. High income returns are the biggest incentive for this crop.

Type of soil

Sandy, loamy, well-drained soil is more suitable. However, except alkaline soils, Amla can be grown in any type of poor-quality soil. Amla crop can be grown better in arid and semi-arid areas. The pH of the soil. Amla trees do not grow well where the figure is more than 2.5, and if the soil is limestone.

Ankhlam grafted plants should be grown to get large size fruits. Ankhkalam can be done in nursery, as well as desi saplings can be transplanted in the field, in the month of June and grafted on it in August-Sept. Generally grafting can be done from May to October.

Caution

Amla tree does not flower if it is pruned more and more frequently, so do not prune more than required.

If the tree bears too much fruit, the rate of fruit fall is higher. When this happens, give proper maintenance of manure and when the fruit is about the size of a pea, spray 2 gm of NAA solution or 2 kg of urea in 100 liters of water twice in 21-31 days.

The shade of the Amla tree is not good at all.

Amla does not do well in areas with high rainfall and high humidity.

The fruit matures from green to yellow in Dec-Jan. A grafted tree bears full fruit in the 7th or 6th year

Irrigation

Watering Amla growing plants on 30 days in summer and 20 days in winter. The higher the organic matter in the khamana, the less water is required. Older fruit bearing trees should not be watered continuously during summer, should be watered once or twice after 15th May and during monsoon when the rains are prolonged and after monsoon.

Compost

Amla plants should be given 3 kg of manure and nitrogen, phosphorus and potash in the first year as per soil requirement (after soil test). This amount should be increased for 10 years and in the tenth year 100 kg of manure and nitrogen, phosphorus and potash should be given as required. Apply nitrogen to the pucca tree in two installments, i.e. the first installment with all the fertilizers in May and the second in June. The market price of amla produced from the use of organic manure is good.

Other varieties from Uttar Pradesh like Banarasi, Krishna, Kanchan, Chakaiya and A-2, 3 and from Gujarat: Anand-2 selection 1 to 2, etc. are found to be under test.

Other benefits

Drug, electricity, labor surges are declining. Initially intercropping can be taken. The economic benefit is greater.

Sale
